I think we miss the point when we start adding screens and extra stuff onto these off-road based adventure bikes. The standard offering with  a bigger tank is all that’s needed.

Agree  :thumleft:

Not all people want bigger tanks, remember?  :bueller:

 :pot:

Are there bigger tanks available already?

On the Honda site it says it's got 45kw.... so which is it now?

I think someone in marketing got confused with the Rally bike https://rally.hondaracingcorporation.com/machine/

This bike really appeals to me - first major service at 32000km. The European 25hp spec is unfortunately a deal breaker unless it is somehow reversible.
Will wait and see what solutions come up.

Here's an interesting suggestion on how to boost the power to 40hp - watch from 3:30 in the link below. Could anyone with more mechanical experience comment on whether this sounds feasible?

You will need a 450X CDI and wiring harness and maybe modify the L's airbox ? That is over and above paying 125k for the L, I also heard the 450X is not imported into SA but I may be wrong.

I wasn't really expecting a fire breather, as it would have been nice to have a 450 with decent service intervals. But this "same as 250L 25hp" is freakin ridiculous!
It MIGHT have been justified if the price was like R90K to get a "250L" with better suspension and more torque.

Guys in the States started buying up Japanese spec CBR 250 CDI's which apparently gave the CRF250 Rally a bit more snap when Honda started realizing what was going on they stopped the supply of CBR CDI's (most likely for warrantee issues I'm not sure). Point being if everyone in the EU is going to start to but CRF450X CDI's we may see the same thing happening. If that is all that is involved to get to 40HP plus.

All Australian 450L,s are sold with a derestriction kit including a new inlet manifold.
This info comes from Australian dirt bike magazine and the Honda Shop Australia.
If Honda SA is serious about this bike they should do the same - I will buy one.

I don't get the point of this bike, if you know your way around some basic tools, you can pretty much put any dirtbike on the road, right? The hype around this bike is mainly that you don't have to put it on the road yourself, or have I got it wrong? what real benefit does it have above a dirtbike you plated yourself (for less money probably)

Down here we might be able to do such modifications in other countries it is not the case and the Honda fills that gap

as an example, in Italy it would be illegal to put a 21” front wheel on a bike that came stock with a 19” etc 🙄

Okay, I'm no mechanical guru so don't shoot me if I'm wrong....but I am good at desktop resarch ;-) From what I can find online, the Aussie derestriction kit is based on the following two parts:

17253-MKE-A50 (Airbox hose/intake pipe)
38770-MKE-A52 ECU (same as US ECU)

US forums are talking up this ECU by Tokyo Mods:
