I took possession of this bike on Saturday past. It was running (roundabout the time of the runderpest methink), meaning that it did not get discarded because of mechanical failure or an accident. This implies (I trust) that everything is still there and everything should work – obviously compensating for time, the enemy of all except good wine and whisky.

It is currently registered and on the road paper wise, wouldn’t have guessed it otherwise.

I was initially confused as to what model and year it could be, thinking it an earlier Golden Flash because of the two cylinders and shape of the tank badge. I took the engine number and after diligent research I came to the conclusion that it is a two cylinder, 500cc 1970 Royal Star. The engine number starts with a ‘P’ and a ‘D’. The ‘P’ indicates that it was produced in November and the ‘D’ that it was in 1970. Then the number ends with A50R, the A50 indicating it is a 500cc and the ‘R’ is for Royal Star.
