This is the number plate that came with the bike. Alright, it is now open season. Go for it.

Personally for me it stands for:  Bsa Like Me.

The first picture is AF. An extensive range methink.

The second picture is a mixture of BSW / W and some AF. There are more, somewhere. I’ll sort them in due course. I have had these spanners for quite some time and because of their extreme high quality (either made in the UK or USA and West Germany, more than 40 years ago) I incorporated them where possible. Each of my bikes has its own toolkit and where one of these spanners fulfilled a useful purpose on a bike, it got added to that bike’s toolkit. The bikes won’t be happy with me removing some of their favourite tools, but that is the future now that another bike needs them. I suppose I’ll be in the market for a few metric spanners to replace those to be removed.

This picture is to illustrate the use I had found for some of those alien tools. It hangs above my bar (as if you couldn’t tell).

Some more BSW spanners. I trust I now have the tools I would need, including an imperial hammer.

And the manuals. I’ve already done some superficial reading up on the net on what to expect. Maybe go through the manuals before hand, just in case. So that that well known maxim if everything else fails, read the manual will not become too applicable in my endeavour. One thing I’ve encountered thus far is to drain any and all oil that can / may be in the sump, before filling up the oil tank to specification.

Gave the bike a bit of a wash. Just to get the worst dust off.

Yes, only 6336 miles on the clock.

Is the imperial hammer a right or a left hand?  :sip:

Neither, it is ambidextrous.

But it does however, not hit in grams or kilograms. It hits in ounces and pounds.  :deal:  :pot:
Young enough to know I can, old enough to know I shouldn't, stupid enough to do it anyway.

Many a true word spoken in jest!  :laughing4:

I have started looking at the manuals in order to get an overall idea and to start familiarising myself with the mechanics of the bike prior to assaulting it with various tools I am not acquainted with. As I now read up, I have a pencil and an appropriately dated computer (see picture below) at hand with which I recalculate all the measurements provided and make new entries in a language I can understand.

Fortunately I have a feeler gauge that is calibrated in inches.

So yes, you made quite an apt remark as to the ounces and pounds. Next I shall have to re-indoctrinate my mind so that when it reads “pint” it does not immediately think “cold beer”.

DAMN that’s nice! If it were me, I’d just replace worn or cracked or rusted parts, new air filter and fluids, lube all moving parts and ride it! The In Thing lately is “patina”.
You been using dogsh*t for toothpaste, Mullet?
