D707 and tour etiquette

Five of us going up to Swakop via Onseepkans,Ais Ais,Aus,Sesriem in a few days.Options on day 3 ex Aus  are D707 or C27 to Betta camp en route to Sesriem.. I am very keen on D707,but suspect the others not so keen.Anyone ridden it lately? Also is it that much better.See C27 also nice.If they opt out is it OK, probably 2 of us to go earlier and do our wish.Do not want to cause offence (not my trip)We on 1290s.Have done fair bit of sand,but do not fancy the whole route of sand.If we ask at Aus who could know when it was last scraped.Thanks
