DAY 6 - MARBLE CAMP TO PUROS

For the first time on this trip I had a good night's sleep. Woke up feeling rejuvenated and ready for what ever the day would dish up.
We had another proper breakfast prepared by the Specialised Adventures team and set off for Puros

There were millions of these goggas on the trip,

Hennie and the other two stooges were misled by Hennie's 1960's gps which could only load routes, and not tracks. This infamous gps named "Pinky" often led the three stooges on their own merry way, yet they luckily never got lost.
Hennie never seemed to be bothered by Pinky's behaviour, and always made his way to the camp somehow.
Janco, Steff and myself crossed the Marienfluss and found NoneKing taking pics of the scenery along the way. I knew then that he enjoyed the trip the way it should be enjoyed. It was good to see this guy, who seem to have everything, taking the time to admire the simple beauty of this place.
It happens on every trip though - This place does things to your heart and to your soul.
We waited for the guys who followed Pinky at the connection road, and it wasn't long before PK's Dr could be heard in the distance.
Peter told me prior to the trip that he was not a great sand rider.
Well, I can tell you that Pete was ripping up the sand over the Marienfluss as he came flying towards us.

After he joined us, we waited for another 15 minutes before the two Cruisers and the Pinky followers joined up with us, as we headed towards Rooidrom.

Hardy you are being a bit economic with the truth and I think you left a paragraph out: Somewhere between .."as he came flying towards us." and "After he joined us..." should be a reference to a mouthful of sand on my part.

Awesome report Canzius....great pics from you and Willie.

I am sure I speak for the rest of the group in saying that what little productivity I had at work before the trip is now completely stuffed....

Kaokoland will see me again..!

This was again just out of the camp site. It's something that took me by surprise most days because usually on our local trips there is always a bit of a slog to get to the good stuff. You get some time to settle into a rhythm, process and clear some thoughts. Not here, Namibia is good stuff leading to more good stuff. You're constantly in the thick of it. I think it's also why on any given day, it was hard to figure out what day it was and how many days we'd been riding, how many are still to come. You are constantly right there in the moment and the everything else just fades away. Absolute biking bliss

First part of the route entailed crossing the Otjiva plains on sandy roads. The group started splintering fairly early with Dwerg, myself and Hennie in front. Hennie was always looking out for the rest of the Stooges and would regularly stop to make sure that they stayed on the track.

100% agree, was only thinking about putting on my boots, starting the 690 and ride it to where ever the track takes us. I must say the next couple of days saw me and my 690 bonding and growing very close, being used to only ride my KTM 300 in thick sand like what was to follow it was a different experience on the heavier bike. But once I found the rhythm and how the 690 wants to be ridden it was a joy to ride it in the sand, even skipping the escape route and doing the whole river section.

I dropped into the Khumib river bed and started turning the throttle. The 501 was loving the thick sand. I had so much fun that I completely forgot to stop and take some pictures. It was only after I passed Mark and Willie in the back-up vehicle that I realised and had been riding for what seems like forever without stopping for a break. I had a look around for cat and elephants and stopped under a tree in the shade for a rest.
