Thanks for an excellent ride report from all who contributed.
I am so tempted to join a future tour like this but for the KLR650, I wish I were 10 years younger.
Maybe when the CRF450 becomes available I might reconsider.

I take it a KTM 350 XCF cannot be used due to not being roadworthy with number plate, lights etc

KLR will work just fine...
A quick look at your profile shows you to be quit a bit younger than at least 3 of us.

Don`t look for excuses...book the trip and make a commitment to go...I promise you it will be one of the best decisions you will ever make.

Yes it will work.

Our riding is mostly on single track, and connection roads between single tracks.

Hardy, what do you do about going through towns like Opuwo, or are the cops never to be seen?

Rob

If you don't plan to do wheelies and stunt riding in front of the cop cars whilst waving obscene gestures, they welcome you to their town.  I have never had a cop pull us off for road worthy checks etc.
We have had one or two driving licence checks in certain towns, but we also have bypass routes for these towns.
Fact is, they, like us consider most of their roads as off road.

I have never tried, because I never had a customer who needed me too. I would imagine that it might be a problem though.

The majority of the April 19' crowd is 50 plus Schalk. Jupiter or Gerrard named it the Geriatric trip.
There are still three spots open on that trip.
Your bike is perfect.

I'll tell you what Frans - When we get to Purros, you can shuttle over the Hoarusib to town with this monster, to refill the beer rations. I guarantee you will be busy.

Laughing at my own joke still - I can just see this monster cutting across the riverbed, hook a right onto the Purros runway towards town, with Frans (and a togbag on his back), flat - tapping it to fetch beers for the Geriatric club.

I've taken my off-road bike to Lesotho many times - just make sure trailer license is good, and declare bike as racing / recreational bike with engine and chassis number on temporary import form.
