Fixing the 690 dog whistle hooter
« on: July 18, 2018, 12:44:50 pm »
Howzit guys,

I recall it being mentioned somewhere but couldn't find the post.

What plug & play hooter can be used to upgrade the hooter on a 690? The stock one is barely audible in traffic.
The one that was on my F800GS was loud enough to be heard by other cars.

Thanks  :)

Any 12V hooter from Mica should work, I think.

You can try adjusting the one on the 690, there's a nut at the back that changes the diagram. Just test it with hear plugs in 👍

KTM 300 X-CW - 2012

I went to visit my local friendly scrap yard owner and liberated from him a Gholf (VW) hooter and replaced the crappy one on the PitBike with it. Believe me, it work.

Just make sure upon installation that the cone face down so that it can not be filled with water during water crossings, rain storms or the occasional washing spree. It sound rather bubbly when you operated it under these conditions

The hooter on my Honda 250 is very STRONG.
Plugged it into the 690 and it is very WEAK.  :xxbah:

Seems to be a voltage supply issue.
The reply from the folks at KTM was "they are all like that."
