We had two more stops.  The gravel roads were over but we went over the mountain and skirted east all along the mountain.  At the farm store of the 86 year old oom John Mouton we bought a bag of oranges.  Capt Muller bought 100 oranges in  August 1900,  but his transaction was interfered with by a English attack.  He went without oranges and money. We completed the deal on his behalf.

Then opposite the old Bokfontein school we made a final stop.  Again the bikes were hairy krishnad.  He had a live Facebook broadcasting, sang Ken gij dat volk, and that was it.  Pushed against the mountain from 3 sides, Gen. de Wet asked one old blackman if people have ever been over the mountain behind him.  Yes, but long time ago. But only baboons cross here now.  So with 250 men he crossed over the mountain.  Gone for a last time.  He would continue the war till the last day.  In December 1914 during the rebellion, with the help of cars his rebel commando was eventually caught.  When Colonel Jordaan took his surrender, the first thing the old man asked was “Our our English or Boer”.  “Boer” said Jordaan.  “Good” said de Wet, “The English could never capture me, after all”.

That was a great trip.  Thanks to Peet Townsend as the Kommandant, Francois Fouche as the Veldkornet, Tertius du Plessis as the Agterryer, Piet du Plessis as the Verkenner and Callie Fouche as the Natalse Rebel.  Met julle sal ek oorlog toe gaan.  Ons maak weer so.

And we made Rapport.  Although the journalist described me as obsessive.  He later apologized, saying someone changed his lines.  Dankie Jaco Nel van Rapport.

Dankie Armpie - lekker gelees aan julle rit se verhaal. Om Deneys Reitz se trek te volg sal 'n groot tog verg, maar sal defnitief een wees om te onthou!

Thank you all for the effort and excellent history lesson. This is the spirit that made this country ... nothing else.

Well done guys!

Just for clarity sake. De Wet and his convoy did the route in a war situation. They moved where they wanted. In the 118 year since roads were built, dams, fences were erect, mielies were planted. So one one will ever do the exact route but we tried to keep as close as possible. In some places it was nearly in their tracks, on other occasions we moved away from the original track. But that is how far we could get it. But we could get it right to move most of the time close to the location in the same direction. Nobody will get it closer in 4 days. From that I am sure. Many to times we crossed the tracks if we were not on them

You guys did really good and it is important for us to have people like you that keep our “ Nasie trots” alive as this new non sex, non race and non opinion world is not on the right track. We need hero’s and we need to keep our heritage!
I wish all our nations in SA would be as passionate as you!

wow what a interesting ride and report. I think it makes a ride so much more interesting to follow history on a ride. I can see a lot of research was put into it. If you ever do another i would love to tag along. Well done

Lemon Tree Guesthouse at Fouriesburg.
