Ignition system, more a key on-off system
« on: July 29, 2018, 06:04:54 pm »
Trust a good weekend Gents,

I was wondering if there was an option to fit a key system to my bike, would love the option to turn a key and have a pieceful coffee somewhere knowing the bike has a good chance of still been there when I'm done, sad but reality!

Thanks for the replies, yes, something simple. Maybe a disc brake lock is the easiest option, then there is no inteferance with bikes elecrical system?

The battery switch serves two purposes, it allows for a key type system and also it stops the battery draining when the bike stands for long periods

I've used a small disk lock on my own bike before, but nowadays I just bank on nobody realizing that there IS no key on the 450!!!

(dangerous, I know!)

there is a thread on ADV Rider (USA) as well as Thumpertalk on how to retro-fit an ignition switch to the 450 BMW and also the small Husky, etc.

Only reason I suggested the battery switch was due to it's "kind of" key effect and the big benefit is to stop the battery draining.

We fitted one to an old Jeep Cherokee v8 4,7 litre which we left for 5 months without driving.  When we did start it, the battery had retained enough charge to get it fired up
