Very nice photograph, Panne

Thanks EV. I tried to fit in the building's whole front view but the street was very narrow with a 6ft. fence behind me, so I couldn't back up more.

Hey GG, right outside the front door of the royal hotel in ladysmith, is a brass plaque embedded in the side walk that say someone or other was killed in a knife fight on that spot in the early 1900s, can you remember who it was if you saw the plaque?

Nope. Sorry. Don't remember a plaque. But I do remember how thirsty I was, and how good the first beer was after riding Mullers, Normandien and Collings passes. ;D

Ok after a bit of googling....

and through the 118 day siege of Ladysmith, the ROYAL HOTEL stayed 'open for business'.
Some of the famous personalities who have stayed at the Royal Hotel are Frank Rhodes, Leander Starr Jamieson, Melton Prior,
and Dr. Stark who was fatally wounded by a Long Tom shell while standing in the Hotel doorway.

investigate the pavement in front of the hotel. A shell embedded in the paving and a brass plaque commemorates a victim of the siege who was killed at that spot.
