Best affordable adventure bike?
« on: August 29, 2018, 10:12:56 pm »
I want to start doing a bit of adventure riding and touring with the bike, but I am looking for a bike that I can also use as a daily commuter that is not too expensive but is still good value for money. Any suggestions?

First question posed to your question is always budget. What's your budget?
Will you be doing heavy offroad touring or light gravel/tar road touring?
There are many options but to me the KLR will always stand out as a good value for money all rounder.

Well I'd say about 30-35k. Mostly tar roads but when I get to face a gravel road or maybe even roads rougher than that. Then I dont want to be restricted.

Welkom Etta95,

A well looked after KLR650 in your price range will do fine. BMW F650 GS Dakar will suite you as well, some have ABS and heated grips, which is beneficial for commuting.

Your weight and height will also be determining factors.

Go to the dealers and see if you can get to ride the klr, dakar and dr650.
See which one suites you best.
Klr more offroad( scrambler)
Dakar more road, light on fuel.
Dr aircooled and between the two

Why not do what I did, buy a 2000 model XT600E with very low kms, ride it to 100 000kms, then sell and make at least your original purchase price back? :ricky:

Biking does not get simpler, and more rewarding. :deal:

Did you find that bike ? I'll also go with the KLR, but for now, here is the deal for you. You'll have to go a long way to get better for the price.
