Entries to the 2018 Tankwa XC Rally close tomorrow, now's the time step up to the plate and get that entry in that you've been delaying :ricky:
If you've never done a multi-stage event but dreamed of racing one then this is the perfect event to cut your teeth on. If the Rally Class is too expensive or daunting then the Silver Class is the perfect starting point to discover if you'll enjoy this form of racing. It's very manageable in terms of distance and terrain and all you need is your bike, GPS unit that reads GPX files, a one day license and the willingness to have the adventure of a lifetime over 3 days.
NB! You don't need a rally bike to race it, all bike classes are catered for with refuel points every 50-60kms apart. You'll find 125's, old KDX's, new 500's and fully blown rally bikes and the odd KTM950 on the start line :ricky:
It's the closest you'll come to feeling like a true Dakar Rally rider. It's also the cheapest 3 day event you'll find in SA, even MTB's cost twice the price.
With camping facilities and food available on site, your planning is reduced dramatically as the local farmers will cater for you with the most delicious karoo lamb braai packs available each night. They even provide the fires and grids and will braai for you as well if you're too tired ;D
