Last year I replaced all the bearings, seals and bushes on the rear suspension of my Dakar. It was a relatively easy job.
Then I said to myself I will check, clean and regrease all the bearings at least annually. For me the biggest job is to put the wheel back.
On Monday (braaidag) I took out the swingarm and find one of the bolts completely snapped. The one that connects with the shock.
Had a big struggle to get the broken part out. Eventually drilled a small hole and borrowed some "easy out" tools.
I replaced all the bolts with 12.9 steel bolts. The only problem is that these bolts is not the fancy plated bolts from BMW. They will rust. I will continue you check and clean them regularly to fight the rust.
If you have basic spanners and sockets this is a relatively easy job.
