also from vuisboek:

" Respect-Ride - Cape Town

I am sure most of you are now familiar with the horrid death of a lady rider who was robbed and shot in Cape Town today.

I have not known her well. I only met her a few weeks ago at the funeral ride of her life partner who passed due to cancer.

My girlfriend rides her own motorcycle and she knew the lady very well. They rode together. Belonged to the same riding group.

Zelda was on her way to deliver flags made for the memorial. Ride of another lady rider which is taking place tomorrow. From there she was going to Fish Hoek to escort a young couple for their Matric Farewell.

Her bike broke down, and after she called a friend for assistance, she was robbed and shot.

This could have been anyone of us. All it takes is a flat tyre. A broken fuelguage. A broken spoke or a loose battery connection.

This is an outrage. And while it deserves a protest ride, we cannot do one, as all the permissions and red-tape would keep us wound up till after her funeral.

So I have offered to help my Gf and her friends to put together a Respect Ride / Funeral. Ride for Zelda. If it turns out to be a protest against the total disregard for a life, or a protest for the lack of policing, then technically such would be entire coincidental, as each of us is allowed to express our views during a respect / funeral ride. And there will be no legal grounds to stop us from showing our respect and solidarity with her 9 year old son who is left behind by this cowardice act.

I am busy making contact with the MAWC in Cape Town, but would like to reach out to all Presidents, Road Captains and other office bearers in clubs to make contact should their clubs wish to join the ride.

We can not and will not stop anyone from flying flags of their choice, wear cuts of their clubs, but we do want to keep this in line with the Constitution, no hate speech, no racism, this is about crime, bikers, our vulnerability and our rights.

So if you are a rider under patch, or a free rider and want to join us, please follow the post as I will announce dates times and places as soon as I can put them together.

If you have ever heard of the "Brotherhood" now is the time to stand up and be counted.

Let us take this memorial ride into the thousands. For it is not only us who ride who read the news tonight. It is also those with guns and cowardice who have suddenly realised there is a potential new soft target available for their crime sprees. And my name or your name may be next.

Let us stand up and show solidarity. We did so a few days ago for farmers. Let's now do the same for us!

Please tag your riding buddies. Your club-presidents, your road captains, and please make contact so we can put this together. We will arrange for multiple departure points if needed. Please share this post as wide as you can.

But right now you need to stand up and be counted. Right now, you need to show you are part of that Brotherhood you lay claim to.

I will appreciate the help of all road captains in putting this together, organising the route and departure points and times.

Ride safe. Ride proud.

My buddy friend my pal who will cut off her arm for you. Rest in peace we love you Zelda van Niekerk."

They should shoot that scumbag in his stomach in a alley somewhere and leave him to die while dogs eat out his intestines.

It was indeed an expression of absolute dumbfoundedness, shock, outrage, anger, sadness, fear and hopelessness. So many of us pass there daily, hundreds of cars every minute, and this shit shoots a woman to rob her of what? A few rands maybe. What has caused this seeming culture of killing people for such trivial reasons? I cannot understand why the message doesn't get through to these people that killing the victim multiplies the severity of the crime, increases the likelihood of being caught, but adds nothing to the profit of the crime. But I suppose I approach this from an incomprehensible distance from the perpetrator.

A life in za means nothing nowadays. Crimes like this happens way too often, we dont take notice unless it happens to somebody close.
Whether the perpetrator was on drugs, out of his mind, or possesed by a demon makes no difference to me.
All you deserve is a little township justice,  a tyre around your waist, petrol and a light.
And the same for that 20 year old who raped a 6 year old girl.

RIP.

I am embarrassed to be associated with a few sick fucks here who think it is cool to make immature comments questioning make of bike, KTM jokes, bang bangs at noon etc. This is not OK - a woman and fellow biker who had just lost her husband to cancer is senselessly murdered leaving behind a young parentless son, and you make light of it. Sies. Any one of us can have a bike failure and find ourselves in this situation. Karma is on its way.  :-[
