Mileage on TKC 80 rear
« on: October 10, 2018, 09:52:30 am »
Guys.

How many kms are you getting on the TKC 80 rear?  I've done about 1700kms now and I have a trip to Swazi end of the month, wondering if I should change early just in case.

Best I got out of a TKC rear was 6000km on a KTM 640 Adventure, that was a very painful experiment, ride slow and really civilized. Best my mate on a 1090 has gotten was 4000km....
Africa Twin CRF1000 and KTM 690 - Aaaah yeah, perfect combo....

I would say nursing them maybe 4000km of which the last 1000km will be better on tar and crappy on dirt.

Swazi is fine until it rains....... then you’ll wish you had brand new tyre on the rear.

Have you considered the Motoz Ralls?

If I do change it'll be to the regular tarctionator adventure.  Had one on my 1190R and loved it.  Wasn't as good as the TKC on tar though. I feel like the Rallz will give up even more on road.

Also praying to whatever god will listen that it doesnt rain haha.   But I am going with some guys who usually ride Triumph scramblers and that sort of thing, so it's not gonna be anything hectic. Bulembu and down to Mlilwane basically.

Jan Staal from Country Trax taught us many many moons ago to inflate TKC80 tyres to 4 bar for tar riding.

It may not give the best handling (but what knobblie is?), but it does improve life.

I blow mine up to 3.5 for tar and reduce suitably for dirt.  Regularly will get above 5 - 6000km

My rear gets up to around 3.2bar after a bit of highway time anyway.

I think I may just stick a Tractionator on just in case.   I wish I had measured the tread depth when it was new so could gauge.
