Hi I am new to the forum! So nice to be back on a motorbike!
I recently bought a 2010 GS 1200 adventure with 70000km from a guy in Grootbrak heights.. he assured me nothing was wrong with the bike and that he had rode it himself... stupidly I believed him and did not do proper shaft checks...inexperience...
I paid for the bike, slept over in George and drove back to Worcester the next day... at Buffeljags I stopped for coffee and saw oil on the back wheel... phoned a few friends which wisely advised me not to continue driving.. I hardly had done 250km on the bike!
Long story short (without mentioning the rest of my troubles with this bad luck bike), I finally managed to get the bike to Stellenbosch BMW.. the rear wheel bearing collapsed and cost of repair was just shy of R14000..
Now my question is this: this guy I bought the bike from blames me for the breakdown and refuses to even contribute towards the repair bill. I am now sure he knew about the problem but he denies it.. even the mechanic at BMW said that it was impossible for the previous owner not to know...
What can I do? Laywers are expensive..probably it will cost me more money to sue this big boer ( I am one too) than what the repair costs were... but I do not want him to win this battle.. he knew about the problem yet sold the bike....
Any advice will be appreciated.. thanks!
Mike
