I am commuting with the GSA on a daily basis 24/7/12 - in all weather conditions; good and bad.

So I have done an experiment the last two weeks.

Of course there are variables - such as the wind on the West Coast - that I cannot control.

But I have tried to manipulate those variables that I do have control over - speed and general aggressiveness of biking to be the most important - in such a way that the experiment tick all the boxes of objectivity and truthfulness.

The red picture is the old tannie way of commuting: keep to the speed limit, defensive biking, no hand signs to any cage driver, no lane splitting, absolute adherence to the letter of the law.

And I was able to do 454kms with 23 kms left in the tank.

The daylight picture was the opposite: an aggressive right hand, bike on the back wheel pushing it to its limits, maximum speed, liberal use of the right hand to get the cages out of the way, breaking almost every law in the book.

And I end up doing 395 with 12km left in the tank.

I am willing to pay for that 60kms . . .
