Why is it that some bikers feel it's their responsibility to tell other road users where and how to drive?

I see several of these guys on a regular basis, profusely waving their arms at people, telling them to move left, move right, go, stop etc. Then if these "students" don't listen to their "master", you'll see a big shaking of the head and tapping of the helmet to show their disappointment.

Not exactly the same, but similarly irritating in nature are the throttle blippers (or sometimes even horn honkers) that make sure everybody in a 200m radius knows that their are approaching.

Maybe it's just that I see lane splitting as a privilege, rather than a right and people making space for bikers are actually being nice to us, rather than doing what is required by law.
