Bundu Bash 2018
« on: December 10, 2018, 04:52:18 pm »
Bundu Bash 2018 took place this last weekend and it turned out to be an awesome ride.

Weather reports the day before were ominous with heavy rain predicted throughout the day, so I fielded calls from nervous riders asking whether the ride was still going ahead or not. I chose to be optimistic, saying I expected late afternoon showers, but no rain in the morning.

As it turned out my optimism was well founded and we only had a sprinkling of rain during the day, with some heavier rain after 17h00 for the last bit.

Unfortunately quite a few riders were not as confident as me and they let Friday night's deluge keep them away, so numbers were a bit down, but those that made it had a great day out.

Left World's View at around 07h30, headed through the world's View plantations, across to Cedara plantations for our first stop at the top of Swartkop, where the normal great view was non-existent.

I didn't take any pics so these are stolen from various riders who managed some along the way.

Thanks, KZN has some amazing riding opportunities. When I was asked to plan this route i initially declined because I don't know the area between Hilton and Bulwer that well. Really glad I changed my mind though, because there is some magnificent countryside here that is just waiting to be explored.

The ride was aimed mainly at plastics and smaller DS bikes. There were a few XR's and KLR's at the start, but I think only one of them made it all the way.
