And a Rhino got rolled! By the wife!
« on: December 20, 2018, 11:22:02 pm »
Low budget, long weekend?
What to do?
I got my extensive camping gear and custom camper together and some major routeplanning and organization done, long before the time!
In other words, chucked a mattress, tent, braai and pot etc in my work panelvan and off we went! :thumleft:
Missus said she wants to sleep between wild animals( different tipe, not me :peepwall:) the ones they keep behind fences, no we did not break into the zoo!
So, Albert Falls first.
O ja, we did stop at Tops and Spar for some non venison as it was decided that they will frown on me eating their nice fat Impala!  :drif:
Our very fancy camp setup, just check the sophistication! We were the only guys to get our braai done before the rain came. :thumleft:
Poor other campers could just be lus and smell it! :drif:

Just before we left the missus decided that she needs to bond with the zebra!
I thought they were going to eat out off her hand as she sat chatting to them, maybe they were planning on sending their next offspring to her class at school?
I think they wanted too much discount on the fees as we left without any new babies in the car! :ricky: :pot:

So then after we had checked out all their animals and camped their campsite, we packed up meticulously ( folded up and chucked everything into the van and slammed the door)
I am a very OCD person when on holiday, everything must be in its place! That being not left behind!
We then proceeded with great haste, average of around 50km/h due to many stops and only doing back roads!
Wife wanted to see Xmas trees, so I took her on some foresty roads through the Karkloof!
Then we got there!

Dankie ouens, ja daai vito aka Skommeltrommel moet maar alles doen.
Ok so then the sun came up after a night off noisy neighbours and then mozzies that wanted to carry us away.
Luckily I had planned very thoroughly, so we quickly put up my biking tent, filled it with matress and were sleeping soundly within minutes! :thumleft:
Lazy get up and get ready because there was this other crazy fella @Draad that stays in a half horse town not to far away that would poison me with his concoctions if he were to find out I was close and did not come by!
I decided to go see his castle and that lovely wife off his that he hides away! :pot:
I was not sure if there was crocs in the dam or not, so put out some bait to see what there was! :imaposer:
No, either none or scared! Was nice and refreshing though!

As we got out we saw something going on on the side off a hill and decided to go see.
Poor park will never be the same!
That Rhino was in for it!

And so my wife rolled a rhino!
Poor animal has infection in the eyes and although the game ranger, who was so sad when the vet told him that he hopes his treatment works as he has never seen that in a rhino, looked as if he was going to burst into tears, he was reassured that it should be ok as eyesight is not that important to them.
Let us hope all goes well with it!
That thing is big and heavy, we all climbed in to get it in the right position for the vet to do its thing!
As you can see, we were dressed for our African Rhino Safari in special gear! :imaposer: :lol8:

I will not get fleas or ticks as I got some off the poison from the Rhino on me ( did wash it off when at the car )
We shared our cold water and then we were on our merry way to the next experience!
Gburg!
What a pleasant little place, ja Jacques, you not a bad fella and I know why we never see his wife as she is a really nice and pleasant lady!
She must have a screw or two loose as she married that crazy guy and stayed with him!  :pot: :peepwall:
Thanks, guys the visit was great and company excellent!
Sorry no pics as I completely forgot! Must have been the company!
Then off we went to get home, eish!
Took a while as we did the scenic thing and stopped few times for icecream etc.
Got home safely just as the sun was setting, dusty hot and tired but what a weekend.
Where else can you have a weekend where you have wild animals chomping grass next to your camp at night, walk with giraffe, sit with Zebras and get up close and personal with a Rhino and then top it with a visit with good friends?
I did not do an exact budget, but all in was under R1500 spent in total!
We did not use the power as I am set up in my van as it is my office, but paid for it as we wanted to be close to the ablusions as the wife was not all lekka.
Total camping fees Albert Falls R260 for two adults and Spioenkop R240!
We live in a wonderfull and beautifull country and ironicly the only people who irritated a bit were wealthy whites!
The back roads were great, do not ask me the route as I got up in the morning and looked in the direction I wanted to be that day and then found roads that zigzagged in the general direction! I got where I wanted to go and saw many very nice sights along the way. Definitely what I needed to just not care for a while.
Sorry for the shortage off pics, but that is why I do not normally write reports as I forget to take photo's.
Fluit fluit my storie is uit!
Thank you for reading!
