Short Ncwadi Solo
« on: December 23, 2018, 09:58:32 am »
Went out exploring new paths in the Ncwadi area by myself this morning. Ride started great, hot with blue skies, a bit slippery from last nights rains, but nothing to worry about. Then I broke a rule I have when out riding on my own, "never go down somewhere that you won't be able to get back up again if you have to."

Yes I do know the other general rule that you shouldn't ride alone, but I have been riding offroad alone for the past 12 years so I am not about to stop at any stage soon.

How can I be lost if I've got nowhere to go?

Got into a little forest, was very wet and muddy with slippery rocks. try as i might I couldn't get up some rocky steps, absolutely no traction. exhausted myself for about an hour trying to get the bike up the rocks, to no avail, so gave up and turned back. Was horrified when I saw the slimy rocky steps I had casually slid down on my way into the forest. After about 2 hours of battling I realized I wasn't getting my bike out. Just then a local cattle herder emerged walking along the path, and together we spent the next 40 minutes pushing and pulling my bike up the slippery rocks.

Can't wait to go back there, this time with company and only when it's a bit drier

Not Hilton as such, but easily accessible on a dirt bike.

It is a beautiful area, miles and miles of green hills, no fences, no farmers, just pure riding pleasure  :ricky:
