Desert Fox Fuel bladder caps will not fit
« on: December 31, 2018, 05:20:17 pm »
I hope somebody can help. I bought a 6l Desert Fox Fuel bladder and cannot get the cap to screw onto the neck.
No matter what one tries and the threads are in good nick you cannot screw the cap on.
I hear others have the same problem.
Must be some cure.
Cannot contact the manufacturers

I’ve had the same problem. Remove the insert in the cap with e.g. a small screw driver and fit it to the filler neck first and then screw on the cap. Only way I could get the cap back on after using fuel. Did not have a problem fitting the cap before I filled it with fuel. Suspect the petrol makes the insert “ swell”. I plan to take mine back once Bikegear opens.

I’m back at work on Thurs 03rd, and will help you then....Since all iterations of this fuel cell were sold with MATCHING caps, is there ANY chance you have ‘mixed & matched’ caps, possibly.

There are 3 or 4 cap designs I am aware of, including a BUNG cap which has a bung-like protrusion underneath the cap, which MAY not fit another bladder, but am skeptical, for the reason when importers improved cap design, we handed out free compatible  improvements to customers...?!Curiouser and Curiouser, said Alice!

Thank you Chris. I cannot believe Desert Fox would be a bad design.
But in spite of this I cannot screw the cap on to the neck.
But in the state it is in at the moment it is totally useless.
Unfortunately for Desert Fox their are other buyers with the same problem reported on other whatsapp apps.
So something is a miss with the caps.

Thank you for the short term solution.
But it still appears to be a design fault in the use of materials in the cap.
Simple stupid Coke 2L plastic bottles hold petrol and do not leak.
So maybe the manufacturers of Desert Fox could use the same technology and solve all the problems.

Thank you Big Dom. I did not want to break up Matthews New Year so did not call. Was going to today but it appears Genie has found a short term solution.
I think I can see the problem. Incompatable materials used in the cap.
Will sort it out when Flying Brick gets back to work tomorrow.

I know I’m generalising, but I often find that a lot of these bike enhancement / improvement products tend to be a bit of a rip off. They look snazzy and come with fantastic uses and applications as per the salesman / sale brochure and promise to solve all your needs and problems. Instead they create more problems and that at quite a price you paid for it. Where something like a 2l plastic bottle at zero costs would have worked more efficiently, but definitely not looking as cool and without any designer name visibly printed on it. And your biker mates will laugh at you at the gathering. That’s the price people pay for keeping up with the Joneses.

to much of a hassle to secure a smooth 2l coke bottle to your bike.

I think a bit unfair - Bikegear (also a vendor here) who develop and sell the Desert Fox brand as theirs do extensive real world research and testing on their products and do not stock or sell "snazzy" bling stuff just for the sake of it. They stand behind their products and develop and improve them if necessary (and will replace/refund etc). They are really a very ethical and committed local bike gear company. It is possible this is a bad batch of caps or seals - I feel confident they will make it right.
PS a Coke bottle will work and I have used them on occasion - they are though not fool proof ... they also do not roll up and store easily  :lol8:

For anyone battling with the Desert Fox cap. Here is the short term solution. Remove the inner sealer, push it into the nect then screw on the cap.
Very heath robinson but at least it helps.
Hope the Desert Fox design team come up with a better solution soon
