I think it is the safest position on the road, always on the outside of the curve, for the following reasons:
- Increase line of sight
- It is much easier and quicker to increase the lean angle of the bike, to miss an obstacle, than to get the bike upright.
- Your head is much further from any potential obstacle when you lean into a corner.

I agree with the green lines shown when the road is turning left, as on the photo, but not at all when the road is turning right ( when you are driving on the right hand side, in RSA it would be the opposite). When the road is turning right, you should be in the yellow zone

Great experiment

Wonder how these spots would be in wet weather?

Unless they used paint from the 60's or 70's it should be okay.

In the UK cities they use paint with sand mixed in for grip. Wish they did this in SA.
Don't slow me down.

It seems it is not compulsory but I've seen lots of 'granular' road markings in the country that is safe even in wet.  (Europe is much wetter  ) ( I fell on a wet white line within 20 minutes after taking possession of my first bike.  :'(
