What's Up with Honda Prices?
« on: January 09, 2019, 06:28:15 am »
I have been looking at the CRF250 Rally, and the prices differ so much - up to almost R10k between some dealers. On R80k, that is a hell of a difference and makes me wonder on how their "recommended retail price" structure works.

Is it just Honda, or all dealers?

As an example:

Get a comprehensive quote before you judge.

Most dealers have a list of additional charges that are NOT included in the floor price.
"On the road costs" is the favourite one, covering what they charge for PD service, un-crating charge etc.
Then they charge for Licencing and Registration to hand the forms in and to collect.
They will also charge for the number plates.
They will also try to sell you extended warranty insurance cover, etc... etc.

When I was much younger, the listed price was the final price you paid...

...and you got the vehicle with a FULL tank of petrol.

Here in Oz the price is still on the road with a full tank of fuel and 3rd party for a year included. I was very surprised but my son tells me it is the expectation here. I assume that would be the same for the R120,000 they are asking for the Honda 450 dual purpose.
The dog that caught the car. What now?

VM, Rocket Racing is not an accredited Honda dealer.  I suspect that they bought a Rally from another Honda dealer at the recommended retail price (R79,999) and are now adding their mark up.

The other prices you see is the dealer discounting their dealership mark up.  Relatively common in the industry.

As a side note I see more and more Rally’s being sold and on the road now with some very happy owners. For commuting and doing even difficult offroad riding in that price range there is nothing else on the market. Also look at demos if still avaliable. Honda often sells very low km ones for around 65k

Honda list price is R84,999 I guess dealers decide how much fat to cut - if any.

Since Honda closed the bike section in Pinetown, Rocket racing was nominated as a distributor but not service agent. They been selling New Honda,s for a while now. All PDI,s,servicing etc is done by Honda Umhlanga as far as im aware.
