Seems like there will be a selection of electric bikes to choose from soon.

Zero has been around for a while
Harley Davidson just launched,
Ducati electric bike is close to production

Jip - I'm sorry but I was extremely keen to get a Zero to commute etc. but with those prices I might as well commute on a Ducati and have enough spare cash to keep it running for years and years to come.

I'd love to ride electric! 100% torque from 0 revs, linear power delivery, wheelie for days, bugger-all maintenance, but price too high and range too low.

I'd love an electric bike, but a decently spec'ed one, with fast charging, like <30 mins to 80% AND that does not cost a pair of plums!

If your commute is something like Strand/Stellenbosch, then I can't think of a better way to commute than if you had an electric scooter and an afdak of solar panels at work to park it under. Non-grid-tied, so as to keep it cheaper.

If your employers builds the "afdakkie" as some sort of incentive to get employees to ditch their cars (which is something Stellenbosch businesses should probably be forced to do by local gov to sort out their traffic and parking problems) then you cant get closer to commuting for free than that.

R40 grand is not cheap... :sip: and after 6 months the battery starts failing... We had 3 chopstix electric bikes at work, they all failed within 12 months and were written off as unrepairable.

I worked it out on the Zero electric bike. To charge full will be R8.50 and I can go from work and back for a whole week! And that's not even using company electricity!
