Back on topic.
According to sales this is the best big adventure bike out there for some time and they just improved on it BUT is it enough to justify the price percentage increase? It looks the same, feels the same (marginal performance added). All the added features are long time standard on other brands.

R270k as previously thrown out there might be ok in my view. Will still like to take it for a spin though.

In their business psyche, they know that South Africans always pay even though they might mourn about it.

Except for going dark and riding a KTM 990 for a while, I have only ever had Beemers.

I have thus far always traded in old bike and replaced with a new one almost every year or 18 months.

But, with the prices going up the way they do, I can honestly say I don't think it is any longer good value for money.

BMW I think have now priced themselves out of the affordable market - really....

It is now that I start thinking of rather looking at the 1290.

The launch of the BMW 1250 is today ay 09h00 - maybe I must go to the launch, and then stop at KTM and look at the 1290?  :laughing4:

Its 9:20 now. How long does it take to arrange financing?

At under R200k, the 1090 R is awesome value for money.

....but then surely so is the Africa Twin

New Twin R209k ? But yeah, great value

Quoted price for the DCT. Manual is below R200k.

The silver one with the grey seats and that sloping headlight contraption reminds me strongly of the original Katana.

Etter, ek sukkel om iets moois in dit te sien.

simply put....

I prefer the KTM.. and at the price of the new GS (GSA estimate from a close dealer principal friend is R310k) I DEFINITELY PREFER THE KTM.

Whenever I feel sick at what I paid for the 1290.....I just think about what okes pay for GSA's and I feel a tiny bit better.

Not much. But a tiny bit.

I don't get it.... ??? ??? ???  ...how does one justify dropping R300K on what is actually a play thing. Ok , if you have plenty of "fuck you" money  to throw around go for it , but if you have to finance it ...you cant afford it. It just blows my mind.  :eek7: :eek7: :eek7:

I bought my DCT, brand new, fitted all the usual bits and bobs like crash bars, bash plate, wide footpegs, spotlights, radiator protectors and then a new Wilbers suspension, designed for my weight, as well as beautiful Alpina tubeless rims. Total cost of the bike as it stands as now around 210 - 220 thousand rand, 100 000 rand less than the standard GS!
