I'm going to wait a week or two and then go test ride one, quite interested to feel how they improved over the previous model.

I don't get it.... ??? ??? ???  ...how does one justify dropping R300K on what is actually a play thing. Ok , if you have plenty of "fuck you" money  to throw around go for it , but if you have to finance it ...you cant afford it. It just blows my mind.  :eek7: :eek7: :eek7:

Amen!

I have a good job with a substantial salary and I can't afford R300k for a new bike.  I guess I could, but I would have to liquidate some of my investments or reduce my pension fund contributions, and neither of those seem very clever.

One of my colleagues is retiring in a couple of months, and he has been moaning non-stop for the past two years on how he can't afford to retire and that the company should let him stay on so that he can save more for retirement and he doesn't know how he's going to manage financially in retirement etc etc etc.  Meanwhile he drives a fairly new 5 series beemer and his wife drives his previous 5 series.  And when I helped him with his finances, it turned out he was contributing a total of 12% of his salary to the pension fund whilst he only had 2 bar saved ... Apparently his beemer-habit is "expensive" so he can't really afford to contribute more .... To quote Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang theory, "I believe the appropriate metaphor here involves a river of excrement and a Native American water vessel without any means of propulsion."  Good luck for the future, buddy.

Recently had the chance to attend a presentation by the CFO of a big five South African bank.  He said 50% of their customers getting into debt review earn more than R30k per month.  And when I see the amount of new R500k+ cars on the roads, I absolutely believe him.

That said, those that do purchase the new 1250 - enjoy!  I'm obviously jealous as hell.

Always nice to see a newer model of a bike, but at this point the GS and GSA is getting a bit like an iPhone. It's a fantastic piece of hardware that just keeps getting more and more expensive, without adding any new feelings of awe.

I've been an iPhone user since they started in SA.

I've been a GS and GSA rider for years now too.

Well, this new one, like the new iPhone, just doesn't speak to me. And you know what? It feels good! It feels so great to be able to see the bike and not want to buy it. Like losing your religion. It feels good.

You guys carrying on about how expensive this bike is compared to what you ride dont make sense. Its all relative; same as cars. You can drive a Hyndai or a Merc, they both pretty much do the same thing and are also just as comfortable as each other but they are different. Dont slate the guys that buy them. Its about passion sometimes also. Ask me Im one of those stupid guys that race cars.........now that really is daft!
Im very fortunate to own a 2017 (2018 registered) GSA without owing anything on it. So if I were to get the 1250 it would only cost me around R120k on trade in (plus the money I lost due to depreciation on my bike).

But I really dont see R120k worth of improvements on the 1250 versus my one year old bike, so I will leave the money in the bank and wait until mine hits 100k kms and then decide- but then again I will have to put in more money to make up the difference when the bike depreciates even more....stop it!
If my itch continues to grow then I will have to ride more to hit the 100k kms first  :lol8:

As for those Gold rims.......i really am not sure if I like them or not. Does anyone know if the black rims are an option?

And no i will not go ride one, just incase.  :lol8:

To tell the truth - except for the tft display, the bike doesn't actually look all that special to me. Those golden rims look like something that came out of India.

Now I know why most GSA's only go to the local Spar.  There is no money left for Petrol :peepwall:

Have you seen it in the flesh?
It's a thing of beauty.

Everything looks just more refined on it. Even the engine feels smoother.

Yes they do

Great.

So I gather the 1200 LC aftermarket pipes will also be a straight fit?

Did anyone also notice that the Stanction looks the same as before they discovered there is a problem.
None of the new bikes have the braces thingies put on like with the recall they had  :o

Or did they fix the issue internally without having to put that brace on?

I havent ridden a bike in about a year apart from riding my XR about a KM at a time to keep it lubed up and to clear the float bowls. I dont think I am at great risk of buying.

Maar ek ken die gevoel, toe ek die eerste keer die 1190R oopmaak op my test ride was dit klaar verby.
