@DirtRebell  Awesome trip for you and your son. Looks like the R62?

BTW you have different tyres to what Manic and I have. I think you have the new Anakee Adventures.

Did about 200kms today with the wife. Really love this bike. Overtaking is a breeze and the bike is just so much smoother and quieter when cruising at 100km/h to 120km/h.
Just not sure what mode to set the suspension to. I think AUTO maybe the best. When set to max it feels a bit soft.
Still running it in so trying not to rev past 5000. Fuel consumption 4.8ltrs per 100kms. And most importantly no heat from the cat. Wife reckons thatís the best thing about the 1250.

Yesterday I had a bit of a scare when accelerating through a corner at an intersection. Bakkie tried to pass me on the outside so I accelerated through the corner a bit too much, hit a slippery section of tar. Rear broke away but I managed to not drop it. Think the bike saved my ass with its electronics but I must admit felt good sliding a bike again even though unintentional. Last time i did that was on my YZ250. 😂
400kms left until first service.

That's the traction control that saved you.

I can't ride tomorrow. Service is booked for Tuesday and having just arrived from bfn via Oudshoorn, the odo is on 1200km.

Cannot agree more on how much more refined this bike is in comparison with my 2016 lc,the latter being a marvelous bike as it is.
Everything is just improved further.
Having kept it on the 5000rpm recommendation, I can't wait to take it through its paces after Tuesdays service and hear what she'll sound like at 9000rpm.

Manic, these tyres are indeed befuck. Sticks like shit on a woolen blanket, with no wind noise.
But it seems like a soft compound, I doubt I'll see 7k km on the rear.

I wonder if they upgrade the fuel injection system and/or software. On a dyno video, a guy that has seen many a air/fuel ratio measurement during WO throttle supposedly could not stop talking about how the new Beemer nailed it - stayed on 13:1 very precisely. Getting the fuelling right for a 2 cylinder big piston engine is key. Maybe someone can ask a mechanic at BMW if they made upgrades with the fueling

There is a review of the Anakee Adventures by Kyle Bradshaw on YouTube. He reckons that a Anakee Wild on the front and Anakee Adventure on the rear would be a good combination.

The review is about 25 minutes long and he tested it on various surfaces.

The Anakee Adventure is unfortunately not available in our shops as yet, hope they become available rather sooner than later

Went and had a look at the1250 yesterday at BMW Cape Town.

They have a few standard 1250's on the floor including a hp and a special addition with gs on the tank  :thumleft
One or two adventures but not hp.

Must say even before I went my mind was already made up on the hp adventure but the sheer size makes me wonder. Way more bulky in front standing behind it than the standard and the crashbars, which I like, makes it even wider.
Maybe I'm just not used to it? I commute daily, is it a bit much? Nimble enough for evasive maneuvers?
Then there is the hp seat which makes no sense looking dull vs the other adventure seats

Where the size makes absolutely sense is for my other use - going to Hartenbos every now and then with the wife. I think it would be an awesome touring bike. Looks like a solid, well manufactured, bike. I just never got into gravel so no issue with size there for me.

I use my Adv for commuting.
That includes lane splitting. While it is a beast and wide, it is easy to manoeuvre through traffic although if cars are close together, it does require stopping to allow traffic to start moving again or "waddling" through tight gaps. Don't want to fall over onto cars in traffic!

And, as you say, the size counts very much in its favour on the open road.
Go for it - the world is your lobster.

Watching the guys on the BM's. The pots are no wider than the handlebars. The handlebars are as wide as those on my 990. Lose the panniers and lane splitting should be as easy for you as it is for me.

I have noticed that width behind me is a challenge and I need to concentrate a lot more when splitting with Panniers on.

Had the tinted screen before. Can not see much through it. Sold out with previous bike.
On next one I just sprayed the inside of my screen with the Peel coat that you buy from builders.
Give it about 4 coats and looks lekker.
