Ben 10 done in a leisurely five days...
« on: February 05, 2019, 08:33:17 am »
A group of us from KZN attempted the Ben 10 between 2nd and 6th January 2019.  I made a series of 3 video’s covering the trip.

People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. And doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something.

Hi Herman, when are you going let us see how your Ben 10 rides went ?

 ;D

We went last weekend. It is a MUST ride. The terrain is challenging but not bike breaking, the scenery is ...... (cannot think of a good enough word to describe it).

We were 6 bikes:
- BMW 1200 GSA (me)
- KTM 950 Adv (Des)
-3x KTM 690's (Rainert, Francois & Johann)
- KTM 500 (being adventure'ised, was the 1st trip out for this lekker bike). (Gert)

Des & I rode down from Pta to Zastron, the rendezvous point, Thursday. We left tar behind past Heilbron and followed some fantastic dirt roads towards Lady Brand for a refuel. From there we headed towards Maseru, but turn right before the border onto a dirt road that hugs the border between ZA & Lesotho towards Wepener for a cold one at the Lord Fraser B&B/Guesthouse. Tar to Zastron, to meet up with the others who had to stoetie down due to work commitments.

We stayed at Mountain View B&B, and arranged with oom Chris the owner to leave the 2 vehicles and trailers there. The plan was to leave early Friday morning and return on Sat evening back to Zastron.

Friday we took tar to Lady Gray, fuel up and headed out towards Joubert Pass. Friday was a long day. We started riding at 7 (Zastron) and arrived in Rhodes (overnight stop) at 19:30. We were NOT in a hurry.

Saturday was another good day riding. Ben McDui is fantastic, the view from the top is mind blowing. You can see tomorrow coming and yesterday going...

Sunday was the usual ride back home via the fastest route.

I recommend doing the Ben 10 to all adventure bikers. It is challenging, but fun. Take your time, drink in the scenery. Take photos, spend time with your riding mates. Just chill.
