I know it sounds ridiculous, but you should try the new Dakar game. You actually follow a roadbook to complete stages etc. yes it's not the same as following one in real life, but heck it sure is good practice to familiarize yourself with the concept :) I think it's worth checking out:

It's a pity you are not in Gauteng, I still have a spare training roadbook for the area here which you could have used. Either way, good luck with your preparations.

Have been giving it a go ... actually pretty cool and I think some good training.
