Red Headlamp Covers- Stupid and Dangerous
« on: March 15, 2019, 07:56:28 am »
Jeez chaps I need to share this, I was travelling to JHB the other day, early morning and it was still dark. Just past Kroonstad on the N1 I was behind a truck and pulled out to overtake , I saw 2 red tail lights ahead of the truck but in the overtaking lane, one would assume it was a car ahead, as I pulled out to overtake something inside said "WAIT" , I backed off and pulled back behind the truck and low and behold it was in fact 2 bikes heading toward me riding side by side with "RED HEADLAMP COVERS"  >:( >:( Seriously I could have caused the death of 2 bikers just because of their ignorance and stupidity. They were definitely adventure bikes. Please chaps if you have or know anyone riding with these RED headlamp covers please throw them away.

Scared the sh*t out of me  >:(

As far as I am aware it is illegal to have forward facing red lights

My question is,

We are all fairly intellectual ( :snorting:) and safety is one thing that is preached to death with motorcycling.  How did it not dawn on these chaps that their headlights might look like rear lights??  :eek7:

Maybe I am giving the average person out there too much credit

What is more amazing is surely a red headlamp cover will hamper the clear headlamp from doing its Job ?? I would think one would need light riding at night. Those 2 okes have no idea how luck they are  :dousing:

I remember expressing concern ages ago about how some of the darker orange lenses could possibly be mistaken for red.

But actual red ones, forward facing, that's just too scary.  :eek7:

I think the average person is a lot less intelligent than you think.

To be honest I think these guys will be getting a well deserved Darwin award pretty soon, although I hope it doesnt happen.
