1250 Tank increase
« on: March 25, 2019, 11:43:12 am »
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but anyways...

On the Aircooled 1200, we use to take the cap out, and drill a hole higher up in the totter :imaposer:
That allowed for about 2  to 3 liters of extra fuel to go into tank.

Tried this on the 1250 now, but Bmw made it easier for us. The longer totter just unclips

Is it really worth it, 100ml on >30L tank?

My 1250 showed empty a few times, cant get more than 25 liters in the tank then.

This mod will see at least another 2 litres go in

Hey that 1250 gs is a HUGE bike!!

Everything is over-sized

I would imagine the totter would be the size of a milk bottle  :pot:

Clearly you dont understand what the totter does...
The longer it is, the less fuel you get into the tank.
It regulates the area from the top of the tank.
Longer the totter, bigger airgap you have on top of tank that wont get fuel.

Had to go search fro this link now.

Did this on my 2009 GSA 1200 and also on my HP2 Megamoto. The drill hole thing. New bike just unhooked the totter  :imaposer:

is there still enough space for fuel/gasses with a full tank on a hot day?  I guess it has a breather pipe, where it could dump any excess

yes but you fill after you have eaten breakfast, not fill park in the sun and leave it, just have to manage it better, fuel underground is cool it warms up quickly👍😎

The 'totter' was molded with a hole in the DOHC GS.  This was in 2010 on.  If BMW knew about the trick back then, there must be a reason on a 2018 bike not to have the mod ex-factory.

Please post the dimensions.

that filler neck doesn't take 2 litres, but it goes into the tank and the depth it goes in determines to how high you can fill the tank.

Am I the only one who reckons that this will not make a difference? To explain my thought pattern as to why not: Lets say you take a bucket and mount a funnel on top with a piece of pipe connected to it, the pipe goes halfway down the bucket, you now start filling this bucket via the funnel. Does this now mean that the bucket will only fill half way? I think not. I might be mistaken but fluid dynamics dictates that one doesn't need to disassemble one's brand new bike in order to get more fuel in.

I might be completely wrong or missing something, but that's just my logic.
