BIKE WANTED for A Newbie
« on: April 09, 2019, 07:27:32 pm »
Hi Guys

A mate of mine would like to start riding, he has never ridden a bike before.

He has a limited budget of R30 000, we have narrowed down his choices to either a BMW 650GS or a KLR650.

He is slightly vertically challenged and needs a low bike.

Do any of you have a bike to sell or know of any bikes for sales.  If you have any other suggestions in terms of bike choice, please feel free to comment.

Thanks for the assistance.

My 2c.  Start him on a CRF250L or similar.

Hey Bud

whilst I partially agree.  The main reason for a 650 Is that he will be riding with me (I have a 1200GS) and anything smaller than a 650 will frustrate the hell out of me :-)

I would say go for a KLR. Cheap and easy to maintain and a very docile but incredibly capable bike and in my opinion pretty comfortable for all day cruising.

Go to the search button above and type in “fugly” (not trying to be sarcastic). See what comes up. Will give you all the information you will need.

I also support the KLR650 Go for it.

Took one for a test ride  some time ago. One of the smoothest and easiest bikes I've ever ridden in traffic. It just points and goes.

+2 on this option!

I have had 4 of these over the years.
You find lots and lots of samples of this and the 800gs with in excess of 100k problem free kms on the odo.
