Considering your size and riding ability the 950/990 range is probably the only one which will keep you happy  :thumleft:

Feedback to opinions:

- I've had a KLR Fugly one & a half times (had one, sold it, then bought it back), so I'm not all that keen on another one.
- I've had several other big thumpers, including several 640's & a 690, and although they're fun when the going gets tough, they are less than ideal on a 300km plus trip.
- I like the XTZ750 (original Super Tenere), but I've been told that spares are a problem in SA, as they were never a mainstream bike here. Any truth in this?
- The older AT's are nice, but legend tax puts me off the clean ones. Even the cleanest examples are now 17 years old already.
-  The BMW R80G/S and R100G/S just feel all wrong for me. The weight distribution, foot peg and handle bar position are all wrong for me. Plus they are asthmatic. I'd love a HPN version, but they go for $$$$...

So basically, I've narrowed my choice down to a BMW R1150 GS, preferably and Adventure or a KTM 950, the KTM being my first choice.

People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. And doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something.

Committed to a BMW R1150GS Adventure. I would have preferred a KTM 950, but I made a straight swap for something, so apart from the expenses that will be involved in collecting it, no cheques or EFT's were necessary, which makes it the best bike for now.

Note the WD sticker ;)

990 is definitely not, but the 950 on the other hand.....

Those are good bikes. They eat miles like nothing you've ridden.
You will sweat if you take if off the gravel, but for a dirt road tourer, they are unbeatable.
