Road test at the time showed it to be than a 900f. At the time I had a 900f and wasn’t impressed 😁

Many moons back (around 1985) there was a Flight Engineer at SAA who had a Sunbeam Tiger with a 351ci blueprinted motor in it. He put some crazy horses on the back wheels; in the region of about 325, if memory serves me correctly.

One afternoon a guy on a CB900F offered him a dice. The bike got away from the robot a moment or three before Trevor, but within about 80 - 100 metres the Tiger had caught the biker.

Trevor took me for a quick spin one afternoon. Over a 400 metre distance we clocked over 160km/h and came back to a dead stop  :o :o

Most things were! I had one and it was a bit of a piggy.... :snorting: :snorting: :snorting:

The bike is in Gauteng. I was going to drive up to get it tomorrow. However the seller informs me thats how the seat has always fitted. I do not believe that these bikes won awards for there manufactured quality.

Back in 1983 I was in the market for a new ride and it was a toss-up between the CX500 Turbo, a Yamaha XS1.1 RH and a BMW R100RS, I then opted for the Yamaha and cannot complain as the yami served me well, but I am still sorry that I never bought the Honda. I hope my memory serves me right, because I remember that one of the things that did strike me at the time was the exceptional quality of the finishes on the Honda and that it almost created the prototype feel, but then again, we’re talking many moons ago so anything is possible
Good luck with your decision
I had a Yamaha 1.1 in 1982, what a great motor, what a pig of a bike.  >:(

My old man had both. I rode the 1.1 and often took my mates around on the back. To this day one of my friend recounts the one time I took him on the Turbo.... weird bike to ride but when those lcds lit up and that turbo kicked in.... yeeehaah!  I can imagine it's like a 500 two stroke when it hits the powerband.

Got it. Dropped it off with Paul from Honda Bloem who did a course on these bikes when he was a youngster working for Honda as a Mechanic he is going to through the bike for me. He told me in 1982 you could bye a CBX1000 for R3300.00 a CBF900 below R3000.00 and this R6600.00 no wonder they didnt sell. He also said since he opened his Business in 2002 this is  only the third bike he has had but none as original as mine. Mechanically it seems fine but the bike is really tatty it was litarely stored in a shed.

Thanks but the the Bike was unrideable brakes metal on metal the discs ae going to have to be replaced. However ran it on its centre stand to check gear box and engine and Turbo. The bike is all there but it is actually quite a big project. Brakes, Fairing, (bike has been over) suspension, seat will have to be replaced new sticker kit indicater lenses and I am sure the list will lengthen as we get into the bike.. The good news is Honda Japan still has spares.

Congrats on the new old bike. That is something extraordinary and even if you spend more than its current value it'll still be worth every penny.

In '94 I bought a CX500 with 1300km on the clock that 5 guys owned in my own town. Apart from a scratch (got it when it was un-crated) on the tank it was as new. R6650.
Funny enough I traded that bike in to Paul when he was still selling Jap 400's from a shop in Noordstad. Good oke  :thumleft:

I think I will reveil the total cost when I am finished. My intention is only to use original parts even to the tyres. I see the prices for these bikes are rising sharpley in the UK however I do not intend to sell when I am finished. I would rather just look at it and take it for the odd ride. I am sure it will do something for my Libido. When I first saw one in my early 20s at Haartes I was gobsmacked at how it just made everything else just look so outdated and wanted one so bad but alas those days I couldnt afford new Tyres.
