Day 4: Kunene Road - Meeting the LocalsThe Ovahimba, or more commonly known Himba, are the indiginous tribe to Koakoland, or nowadays Kunene region.

They originated from Angola, and were part of the Herero tribe.

They moved from Angola to Namibia in the 16th century.

Only the women "paint" themselves in the distinctive red ochre, which is mixed with butter, and applied after slightly heated in smoke.

The Herero tribe moved south from the Kaokoland, due to a bovine epidemic in the early 1900. A few woman in traditional Herero dress, were seen in the Kaokoland.
