990 goes to Margate
« on: May 05, 2019, 03:16:03 pm »
hi de ho
Left Hoekwil in thick mist Over the mountains and into a Karroo rain storm, For the old Rhodesian/Zimbabweans might remember the old strip roads, Well on a scooter after the rain oncoming traffic is not such fun. Then again The Karroo clay is also not such fun .
And when it does rain in the Karroo it does a proper job

Went off that cement strip road once for a car, got a huge fright sinking through the mud on the side of the road. :o :o

The rain was pretty hectic and stopped play for the day. The town streets are ox wagon wide wide. Thursday rain had stopped and the roads were drying out. Some stunning riding on the farm roads

In the Karroo i found most of the town centers with there wide roads all but deserted.
not so in the eastern cape, that is a different planet
WHO said the 990 is fat ? i had to squeeze thru the security boom because i was to LIGHT to trigger it.
Even rode past an ant farm,

Day 3 i arrived at the south coast bike fest in Margate just south of Durban
The Eastern Cape and Natal towns are slightly different to my home town.
Clocked into the local watering hole full of Harley riders from JHB. What do they feed Harley riders on? "they are big"
Lot of sounds and smells.

Day 4 just chilled and watched the shenanigans of the bike rally
When in Durban Bunny chow is mandatory
Got to see Jack Parrow live on stage and learnt the words to one of his songs "Fok fok fok fok fok fok fok"
And looked at lots and lots of bikes

Met a bloke on a 1290 KTM on his way to cape town so we rode together for a while
Riding in Natal up near the border of Lesotho is spectacular.

Nice pics and lekker trip, thanks for sharing  :thumleft:

On the front wheel puncture:
Do you have rimlocks on? What speed were you doing when it happened, any serious butt clenching before it came to a halt?

Hi
No rim lock
the tyre does not give a lot of warning before it lets go
i was doing my best Valentino impersonation down  mountain pass  when the 990 started the 'wobble'
Not a nice feeling and to be avoided
price of new underwear is scary
