« on: May 05, 2019, 03:27:08 pm »
My battery kished out while on a ride on Friday. I had to leave the bike at a friends house, so I cant see what kind of battery it has in at the moment.

Which battery would you recomend for an 1150 Adv?

Ross a Yuasa YT19BL-BS should fit and work 100% in the 1150 GSA.

If you want to go cheap, Deltec (branch in Paarden Eiland) sells a 18AH battery that works 100%. They last for about 3 years, but cost 30% of a battery that will last for 5 years.

@ChrisL - DUSTRIDERS where can one buy a Yuasa battery in SA? I tried to get one as replacement for a golf cart, but could not source one in SA? The cart takes the exact same size as the 1150GSA.

Thanks everyone.

Any bike or battery shops in Somerset West, or close to the N2? I have to fetch someone from the airport, and I don't relish the idea of having to go in to Paarden Island or Belville.

As long as its a good battery with minimal voltage fluctuations, otherwise it interferes with your servo brakes. And you do not want that to happen, trust me. I've had two failures and the stain in my underpants could not wash out.

There was a WD who had a bike shop across the  Stellenbosch (R45) road from Somerset Mall in the centre there. Don't remeber the name.(Could be Mad Macs?) Then just up the R45 there is Donford outside Stellenbosch,

They gave me a SLA, sealed battery. Brand I've never heard of.

Replaced the battery, replaced the broken plastic quick couplers, and the POS still won't start!

You probably connected the connectors to the wrong side, I have mine reversed to make it impossible 😎 maybe some more symptoms? Does it spin, did they check your old battery? Does the new one go flat almost immediately ? Tried jumper leads?

I got the bike with a flat battery. I charged it, but it wasn't holding its charge. ABS warning lights kept flashing, a sign of low voltage I'm lead to believe? I have a battery tester, and tested the old one. Fully charged, it would read about 12.7v, which sounds to be spot on, but under strain, it would drop to 10v. So I replaced it.

Just before I put the new battery in, I was riding in Agulhas, when the bike just dies between 1st & 2nd gear. Replaced the battery, replaced the fuel connectors (because of the different lengths of the fuel pipes, I can't connect them the wrong way round...

The hall sensor was replaced about 15Kkm back, and the bike was serviced a few month (few 100km) before I received it.

Not sure if I should be worried, but the oil sight glass shows the bike has a lot of oil in it, but this could also just be because the bike has been standing now, and all the oil has migrated down.

The only thing I havent checked are the spark plugs, because the bike was recently serviced. All the fuses are OK.

does it spin on the starter or just dead? Does the fuel pump prime when you switch on the ignition? Don’t worry about the oil.

Starter spins, and I can smell fuel, so I assume it is priming. Everything sounds as it should, it just wont start. Going to pull the plugs tomorrow, & check for spark, and check the plugs themselves.
