KLE 500 Reserve tank? or lack there of?
« on: May 20, 2019, 12:42:01 pm »
Howzit guys,

I have been riding my KLE for about 6 months now from Skeerpoort to Cresta randburg every day and like clockwork I hit reserve at 250km

Now this month I have moved to Roodekrans and have been riding to work and back thinking this bike is pretty light on fuel cause I had not hit reserve and it was 296km....

Well turns out this morning about a km from work I hit reserve, I turned the tap to reserve and guess what bike still wouldnt start???

so leaned the bike to the left turned the tap to Primer and lit up a smoke.

a few seconds later I fired up the bike and made it to the office.

I know that I ride some hills now and lean a bit more but how is it possible to ride a tank dry when the tap is not on Reserve?

Another thing I have noticed is when you try to get the front wheel up it never does. Then when riding anger like this morning it comes up while lane splitting???

I hit reserve at just over 200km usually, switch over and have 5 or so litres of reserve.

Exactly, my reserve tap always worked, seems the rubber in the tap may be leaking reserve fuel even when its not switched to reserve.

mmmmmm.... bloody bikes....

anyways will check it out over the weekend.

If I remember from pulling my tap apart a few times.. remove the entire thing from the tank. you may find one of the pickup tubes may have come loose meaning you are using the reserve all the time.

On my R1150GS, the tank has no cross over so you can run out of juice with 3 or 4 litres still in the tank.  ::)

I can tell you one thing, there is hardly a worse feeling than to hit reserve, stop to switch the tap and finding it's been on reserve already. :xxbah:

Also check the o-ring on the vacuum side of the valve. Mine perished and resulted in flooded carbs..
