WTF, Honda?
« on: June 04, 2019, 12:33:20 pm »
I am refreshing my 1984 VF1000RE currently.

Honda's prices are RIDICULOUS!

Some of the parts that are available in RSA (meaning backorder) cost nearly 7 times as much as what I get them from the UK. And then backorder is 3 to 6 weeks.

I ordered some parts from the UK on Monday (27 May), dispatched on Wednesday and I received it this morning.

Although the shipping is quite expensive, I still paid a third of what I would have paid at Honda and received the parts in 5 days.

No wonder the motorcycle industry is suffering.

I must add that I support the local dealers w.r.t. all my other requirements, even if I can get it cheaper overseas.

'70 Triumph Bonneville 650 T120, '84 Honda VF 1000 RE, '01 Yamaha YZ 250 N, '12 Honda XR 650 L, '14 Honda NC 750 X

If I REALLY wanted to ride a BMW, I would join the Tshwane Metro.

Honda has been building a reputation for very expensive parts the last few years.

Honda irritates me with the pay upfront policy for simple service parts they must hold in stock.......

I also hate the fact that so many dealerships don't hold stock of basic items on common bikes (never mind what they charge you). I'm probably ignorant, but I feel like they must loose business because of this.

I must give props to Eddy2race wrt Husky parts, they've had almost everything i looked for in stock including a top end rebuild kit for a fe450.

I guess it depends from dealership to dealership but the Honda Tygervalley dealer parts guys have absolutely <zero> interest in bikes.

You need to come to them with the part number in hand otherwise they cant help you and don't give a toss

So I have been doing online and ebay etc.

You can also try these guys I got some floats for a old bike from there - very reasonable

And the more we shop overseas, the more the locals will be forced to rip us off. ;)

Original Honda parts come at a price because the quality is there.

This is why you are only refreshing a 1984 Honda in 2019. :pot:

Honda here (car not bike) wanted nearly double for an injector compared to UK. I shop around when it suits me, it's not 1980 anymore where the customer doesn't know about alternative options, we have the google.

Honda (car!) dealers are forced to sell bikes as well.... hence small wonder they often could not care less, and will not keep any spares in stock - I mean, what's better than getting paid upfront, then ordering and patiently waiting until the stuff has dribbled in?
The pricing point is something else entirely, X7 is simply ludicrous... that UK dealer also makes a profit innit?
I've said it again, bring back MidMacor and kick HondaSA out of this country!  >:(
