Sounds like a right klomp pomp  :lol8:

Kom, ons weet jy wil saam.

When? - September ... Spring

I was actually talking to MiniDan earlier, and Sept. may be the time. :ricky:

And from all corners, nooks and crannies of our wonderful land, they started making their way to the north, to descend upon Noneking like the ten plagues of Moses' times.

Nee wat! Dit lyk nie of NK skrik vir n paar Kaase hooligans nie! :snorting:

Pick Me - I know the rules!!

Do explain the 1200km of desert/not desert riding?

Tankwa rally. Still on my bucket list. My bonus this year is going towards things to keep my wife happy for a change so next year might be on the cards.

Ahh - assumed it was somethinglike that - maybe I should prep the X-Challenge for that......

We're extending the Rally class with a "Rally Light"  -  you can do it (for this year) - with a GPS, the only 2 REQUIREMENTS for this 2019, 1) your bike must be roadworthy, 2) it must have a 250 km fuel range.

For next year, to shrink the technology gap, the GPS will be replaced by an Andriod/IOS device, with proper electronic roadbook, like this:

(You need to, like with a normal roadbook, scroll the map up and down, bump the ICO up and down, as you get lost  :deal: )

It would definately lower the bar to entry for riders that is up to the challenge, but does not want to shell out the $$$ for full rally kit.
GPS is dead, the kit for "Rally Light"  cross-polinates to dual sport riding, i.e. you won't need to spend massively on kit just to partake in the adventure of rally.

Keep in mind, this is not doing a spectator route, this is riding on the track, same time, same distance, same, same as for the rally class, without having to built a rally bike.

I seem to remember @Kamanya had 2 iPhones with the ICO app for an Amageza one year - if it was him....?
This would be my route i think- the X-Challenge has a fuel cell on it already, good for around 300km.....

But back to the tread topic...690/701/PR7 - The best adventure/DS bike on the planet!!

They will all be able to do the Rally  :imaposer:  - it is not hugely technical (unless you go at real race speed), but navigation is demanding, as well as endurance.

If I was not so involved in the organization, it would be the one race I would do as I can do it on my D/S  :thumleft:

now the million $ question 2sd, you gonna ride the 701 from stellies to kruger?

It's done 30 000 kms since Oct. 2016, even with me not riding for 6 months, so Stellies to Kruger is small change. :ricky:

But if we pull together say, 4 guys, it's better to trailer.

We'll trailer, up in 2 days, but MiniDan and me are planning a little roundabout return.

He has not done Sani yet, would you like to join?

On 2 separate Amagezas I used them for different purposes.

One was as a tracker, sent my position and speed real-time so long as I was in cell reception. It still recoded everything when I was out of reception but would “upload” all the data once back in reception.

The other time was as a GPS based ICO using the above mentioned app. There was an issue with this because an Iphone screens not clear enough in direct sunlight. I also found that dust on the screen was an issue too.

Thanks for that, out of interest,

- how accurate was the ICO.

Screen:

- Keeping in mind that screen technology has advanced, can you compare it with the new anti glare screens, especially those found on the industrial tablets?
- Was the dust an issue because of the impaired visibility, or were you scrolling "on screen", and that was an issue?

The ICO function was VERY accurate.

I haven’t seen the new tablets.

The dust stuck to the screen because of static, the backlight wasn’t powerful enough to shine through, or with many angles of sunlight it made it unreadable. It needed to be wiped regularly.

I’m remembering now that I had it in a leather waterproof holder. It wasn’t a good idea as it overheated in direct sunlight and turned itself off once or twice. As a backup, the 950 has a built in ICO.

I parked my Husqvarna 701 SM the other day and have been thumping around on my KTM 690 Enduro R.
I don't know what it is, but I think I prefer the older style engine without the balancer shaft in my 690.
Thumpers are supposed to vibrate a bit and should have lots of bottom end grunt and should not be wanabee twins which want to rev.
