So I read somewhere that Africa Twins have a tendancy to go through rear wheel bearings.
I thought I read somewhere else that it was cured on later models. It would appear not?

Anyway I always check wheel bearings when changing tyres and found my rear axle difficult to remove as it was a bit corroded. I soon found that water had got into the bearings as well. One was quite rough. Its probably the hub mounted seals that deteriorate with time as mine were quite hard. Bearings and seals available at Bearing Man for about R200 odd.
Quick job to replace them. I packed the gap between bearing and seals with waterproof grease. I'll be doing this with every tire change. Interestingly the original bearings were sealed units as are the replacements. It looks like the corrosion creeps from the outside surface of the outer race past the seals to the inner race.

Just pulled the front wheel and its all honk dory in there.
