Hi Dogs,

It's looking more and more likely that myself and my American wife will be biting the bullet and making a move to the US at the end of this year. It's not 100% confirmed yet, but we've made the decision that if I'm not able to find gainful employment by the end of October that we'll make the move. She'll be there from August finishing up her studies, and if I find work she'll come back, if not then she'll find work in Washington and I'll move over there.

What I would like to know is if there are any dogs who live, have lived or know of anyone living in Washington State. I know it's as big as a freaken country, and there are so many towns and cities in Washington that one could live in. I'm looking at Pullman, as my wife wants to go into University Teaching and eventually become and "English" Professor.

Any thoughts or introductions would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Andrew

Yup, look Bob up.

A true gentleman. And he runs a construction type company I think? Always looking for good tradesman.  :thumleft:

Yes, that's quite right, it gets cold in the winter, but Washington isn't actually that bad. The reason for Targeting WA is because of the Economic conditions and the environment. I believe after reviewing all stats available that WA provides the best balance/quality of life between careers , cost of living and outdoor lifestyle. It will help me get my foot in the door and after a couple of years of hard graft we may want to and be able to move to a warmer state......I'm willing to put up with the cold for a bit because of this......I lived in Candad(Barrie and Midland, Ontario) in 2006 and 2008, and as bad as the winters are the summers are awesome! People really make use of the summer and don't waste a moment of it, it's almost like people there live more in 5 or 6 months than what we do in a whole year, because we take the weather for granted.......

Kind Regards

It rains a lot in Washington State, as in every day in summer and the winter is milder than in Wisconsin because it lies below Vancouver which is the hottest state in Canada in winter.

WA is on the West side of the USA and Toronto on the East side of Canada..
Don't you mean Vancouver which is just to the North?
Or do you mean line of latitude?

He may have meant Washington District of Columbia, aka Washington D.C., which is only 776 kilometers from Toronto.

When you move here, if you’ve any plans to build a home and require ANY knowledge of building methods or codes, ask Fud, he’s an architect in ZA.

I am busy possibly looking at taking up an Opportunity in Spokane, which is not far from Pullman (and Moscow - its true ) IIRC Spokane and Pullman are less than 150kms apart.

I was also worried about the winters and snow etc From what I remember rain and snow in winter and pretty decent temps in summer that can reach up to around 30C. Apparently winter is only really about 5 months of the year.

Hi Guys,

Just an update. Have formally started the Immigration Permit/VISA process. Waiting to be invited for an Immigration interview now. Still living in Tanzania, but this is only short term. Looking at making the move early in 2020, then the JOB HUNT starts. Highly unlikely to really find something without actually being there.

Kind Regards
