A ride on the hill behind the house...
« on: October 20, 2008, 12:00:54 pm »
A nice automn Sunday morning... What does one do? Why, one takes a ride!

At the bottom of the road leading down from where I live, I have a decision to make, where to go?

I turn right, and head down the valley. I have no real destination in mind, and just plan on riding to enjoy the ride.

I pass this house, and the bee-hives catch my attention. Funky!

The road I am following...

...runs along this river. It flows into the Rhone very neat to here.

The beast is thirsty...

So a pit stop is called for:

173km to the yellow light, and this is the damage:

I pay for the petrol, and successfully avoid these temptations:

I get to Seyssel, which has some really tiny streets:

It is a Sunday, and the streets are quiete:

A shop sign advertising some wines from the area:

Now a plan forms in my haead.... lets head for that hill:

I'll have to cross this bridge...

So I walk around the church...

and down the alley....

past some door to some appartments...

to where my bike is waiting:

Looking back to where I just was

The Rhone:

I head up towards the hill, passing a forgotten camper van:

Yip, they grow grapes here for wine:

It is automn, and the grapes are gone:

A nice stone farm house:

Farm sheds facinate me:

And up the hill I go!!!

Nice and twisty:

What is this I see before me?

Yes!!!

A nice sized trail...

And in case I was not sure, Garmin confrims that is is unpaved. Thanks Garmin!

Through the woods I go...

A spot to stop where it is not too steep:

Yes yes... I love my beast:

Leaves, moss, and a Sidi Crossfire!

Where I have come up from...

and where I am going...

Yip, now I know why I was skidding all over the place... my rear is toast!

It can just about cope with this... but any more would be pushing it.

I exit the woods, and make it up to the top of the hill:

In case I am not sure of where to go:

Nice sign...

A nice ride all along the top of the hill...

And then! The mud monster lurketh!!

Rural grass land...

... and a farm.

What the hell is a "Barrière Canadienne"? Don't the French like Canadiens?

Nah... it is just what they call a cattle grid:

It is a Sunday...

... and this is a bikers church:

Indeed. I also appreciate the solitude and the views...

Soon it is time to head home. Back through the forest:

A sign showing where I have come from, and where I am going:

Some "wildlife" along the way:

Bunch of wussies! Scared of the beast!

Another farm house...

... along the road...

... with nice views.

Not far from home now...

Just a last forest to cross.

Total distance, about 75km.
Total time, about 4 hours.
Total enjoyment, immence!

Thanks. But there is more to the "grass" than place to ride. ;) But I do have to say, there is some good riding to be had here. There is a lack of off-road though. Unpaved legal roads such as these are few and far between. However, the small country roads (even if "tarred", do make up for the lack of dirt roads.

I love France. :thumleft:

The only problem with France is that it's full of French people. :3some:

Get them outta there, dig up a few tar roads, and I could easily live there.

Nice Kev, beautiful pictures. 8)
