KTM 625 SMC - Struggling to start
« on: June 27, 2019, 08:31:55 am »
Hi Guys

Need some advice please. I have a 2005 model KTM 625 SMC.

I dont know if the battery is faulty or if its not charging properly or if there is a bigger problem and I don't want to go buy a new battery when its not that. (Battery is exactly 1 year old now)

The bike struggles to start whenever it stands for more than about 6 hours. In mornings its worse when its cold. The tests I have done so far is:
* Disconnect battery as soon as I stop and know it will stand for a while - Bike starts easier but still not 100%
* Charge battery with normal charger over night - Bike still doesn't want to start
* Charge battery for a few min while connected with jumper cables to bakkie - Bike starts a little easier but still not like it was

The other problem is that I used to use the choke to start it when its cold but now when I pull out the choke its almost like the motor doesn't even want to turn over.

Any suggestions on what/how I can test what the problem is?

Dankie
