Looking at one of these, but want to keep my 500EXC, so budget of about 60k. They all  seem to be 50 000 km to 80 000km, what are the Dogs feelings on high km like this??

Can't comment on other's bikes, but I am now on 80 something K km's and have had no major issues until now.  I think my stator got fried the other day, which seems to be a common fault from 50K on depending on one's luck.   My head bearing also has a notch, another common fault, but I have been riding it like that for at least 30K without too much worry.  I have the spare on my desk, but need to work up the pluck to change it.  Other common fault is fuel pump failure, touch wood I haven't experienced this.  Another fault is shitty headlight reflector, mines a bit blackened.

Is this enough to worry you.  Don't be put off, it is a great bike otherwise and I am still very happy with it, just query the present owner on these mentioned issues.

I have a 2009 model and bought it in Feb 2013 with 24 000km on the clock, currently the speedo is just over 97 000km and I'm still very happy with mine. I also had to replace a stator an a fuel pump, otherwise only the normal wear and tear items like bearings (neck and wheel) an no other hassles.

I've realized that the 800's are very particular with batteries and can give you endless issues if a battery is not 100%, example a dead cell or voltage drop and each time the symptoms differs from struggling to start to instrument cluster flashing etc.

My 800 is the vehicle that I've had the longest and I'm still very happy with it.
