Good spot for a base if you want to do the Wild Coast. It is on the Umzimvubu river on the opposite side of the town of Port st. Johns. A rowing boat ferry will take you across the river and into town for R2.50 a head or otherwise you backtrack to the Lusikisiki bridge to get into the town by road (about 10k's of which half is fantastically potholed dirt). No, the boat will not be able to take a bike.

The camp is a bit run-down (which I actually like) and the pool balls in the bar have some green stuff growing on them. They work strictly cash but will run you a bar tab into infinity. Biker friendly (the one-armed switchboard operator alleges his arm was "stolen" by a Kawasaki, but it might turn out to be a Suzuki should you pitch up with a Suz.)

Their in-season rates compare extremely well to the tourist traps of the other camps. For R450 a day you'll get a lekker self-catering house with space for five adults or more. The owners have been there forever and know the area and the current status of roads.

Wonderful views of First Beach, the river and the town across the river. Pretty sunsets too.

The pic was taken from First Beach and all those houses clustered on the hill form part of the camp.
