Chest Plate or Body Armour Jacket ?
« on: July 22, 2019, 01:52:24 pm »
My chest plate, which I use for off road riding only, requires replacement.I like the Leatt 5.5 Pro HD Plate, alternatively the Leatt 5.5 Body Protector Jacket.
What say you guys in the know ? I am a bit concerned that the jacket might be a bit hot in hot summer days.

I had the 4.5 body protector and you dont really notice it in terms of heat. The perforated "shirt" lets enough air through

I also use the 4.5 and it crashes really well. But it does get hot under there.

I have the the Leatt 5.5 body armour.. and it is very hot for me, it allows basically no air flow.

The leatt 5.5 I can't wear in summer, infact I only wear it if I know its going to be very cold or raining otherwise it stays in the cupboard. I use the THOR body armour in summer, its all the protection you need held together with a very breathable mesh.

Bear in mind I'm doing pukka offroad with these impact vests.. so its in the dunes or fast trail riding or enduro kind of riding usually on a 250cc or rally riding on a 450cc, so its not adventure riding.

If you only doing adventure riding then you should be wearing a proper adventure jacket, these impact rigs don't work if you falling at speed on tar, they will just rip off your body.

make sure you are getting the right gear for the application.

@Fuzzy I wear mine either under a MX style shirt or a leatt jacket. Stops it being displaced while you slide. If you wear it without any cover then yes it will move/rip off if you fall at speed.

I am personally going to get a 3DF when the time comes. I have the previous version of the 5.5 and did everything from desert, offroad, enduro and dual sport with it. Only complaint was that the sleeves are now stretched out and flap about, chafing like mad on the edge of the pads.

If you are hot in summer, it's probably because it's summer.

That looks nice.
Wish they made it a bit bigger to cover more.

Shot, the stretching and the cleaning of the jacket ( together with the heat ) are my issues, otherwise it looks like a proper set of kit

OK - y'all can help me slightly off-topic, but perhaps pertinent to the OP in the end.....
I wear a Leatt 5.5 armour and a Leatt GPX neck brace, but the shirt is a problem..... The neck area is not big enough to go over the neck-brace, so I have to wear the shirt inbetween the armour and the neck-brace, and it bunches up.....
What do y'all do about this????

On my shirt it says "neck brace compatible".. what ever that means
Guess it fits better around the neck area perhaps

According to the "spec sheet": This is for the 4.5 shirts

"Tailored designed to be worn with or without body armor and the collar works with or without a neck brace. Offers a more relaxed fit compared to our race-tight factory 5.5 jerseys:
