Ag jirre nee..

Jan was one the first members of this forum, a dear friend, beloved husband and father to a young daughter.  A friend with who i did a few bike trips.  But also a private person.  I enjoyed reading his columns in the Rapport then phoning him to joke and chat.  He never took himself seriously.  He was intelligent and witty, - we always joked and laugh.  I didnt even know he had leukemia. We always joked about his heart.

Nelia, you are in my family and my thoughts.  This is so sad..

I was overseas when I heard, one of the early forum members, I remember him at Caledon at the "Rustic Bash", a great character. RIP 8)

Yes I remember him from there too.  Fascinating character - enjoyed listening to him.  May he rest in peace.
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

This is very very sad news.
I got to know him a little more through the years (had a drink or two at his house - literally just around the corner from my office)

There was indeed no one else like him.
No-one that met him disliked him.

I knew about him probably before I knew about the Wilddog forum and Charley and Ewan. Jan wrote a couple of camping/adventure riding articles about his travels on his KLR.
It was indeed a thrill and privilege to meet the man behind the name.
And what a legend.

He was in my opinion the anti-hero's hero.

My life have been made better by knowing him and the world got a lot worse by him leaving it.

It really feels wrong to be talking about him using words like 'was' and 'knew'.

:-(

Condolences to the friends here (and there's a lot of guys here that were very close with him) and to his family and non biking friends.
