So he needs a gear indicator to tell him what gear he's in????
He's a dipstick, unless BMW defies convention? its 1 down 4-5 up you don/t have to be a rocket scientist to work out
that,
He not a Biker if he cannot tell what gear he in by the engine revs,???
I think this is a money making law suite
BMW should ask for their bike back saying they'll fix the problem and give him a  baby walker for him to use in the mean time

Love is? Tarmac, throttle wide open! and the pipes screeming like banshees

"BMW has long known about the problem but has done nothing about it"

fanboys, do not shoot the messenger!

We have seen this behaviour from this brand a few times already, remember the "pinging" issues that were flatly ignored?

If the plaintiff is stupid, it's probably for walking into a BMW dealership to start with.

Agree with all of the above, the guy's a twat.

But.....if there's a potential payout in it for me, that puts a different perspective on it.  :lol8:

Clearly they have no plans to fix this, looking at their roadmap for these models...

The plaintiff's big worry may be, rightfully, that if BMW cannot even get 70's technology like "idiot lights" right, can you trust their ABS, TC, etc??

Or their home-crimping of steering systems? :pot:

Can you even trust that your brake-light is working? :eek7: :eek7: :eek7:

The heading of the thread is misleading.. its a proposed class action suite, there has been no judgement on it.

Its paramount to telling on...  :laughing4:

To everyone saying he is a twat / looser / needs to get a life etc i'm willing to bet R1k that none of you have a faulty BMW in your garage that BMW is not willing to fix.. :peepwall:

All I know is if I had paid R250k plus for a bike and the gear selector was faulty, I would not be happy either.. if this is a common problem and enough people have the same complaint the class action may proceed and force a recall.. will be interesting to see what happens.

When I had my HP2 it was a known issue with the front forks wearing at the seal. BMW would not replace it as they deemed it wear and tear which I accepted at first - not happy but went on enjoying the bike for the reason I bought it. Then I spotted a thread on ADVRider and a guy in Canada posted a letter of BMW who will do a recall - in Canada on the HP2 forks. I printed the letter went back to my dealer where I bought it and said please send this to BMW UK and get back to me with an answer and don't be surprised if every single HP2 owner rocks up at your dealers doors with the same letter.

Received a call the next day and whole new suspension fitted free of charge with an upgrade done to eliminate the issue. Whether a gear indicator light can put your life in danger would be scary the fact that you actually rely on any electronics including ABS when the shit hits the fan, maybe just maybe biking is then not for you  :biggrin: If you paid top dollar for something and not getting your money's worth and have to prompt the guys at the top with a law suit so be it  :lamer:

The guy is a complete idiot.   Those of you who disagree should go read the article again.

Yes, he is most certainly entitled to a 100% bike and BMW should supply that,  No argument there.  If they cannot, or will not you should take them to task and if that includes a court case, that is fine.  No argument there.

If, however you state that not having a gear indicator will:

- impede you from properly judging accelerating power and torque delivery;
- place the motorcycle in incorrect gear while on cruise control;
- reduces gas mileage
- causes “excessive strain” on the motor among other things.

Then, he is a utter, idiot.  No argument there.

So a faulty gear indicator is a problem, but dodgy stanchions that fall apart and try to kill you are fine?
