What does it cost you run your bike?
« on: August 08, 2019, 01:32:50 pm »
When it comes to the cost of bike ownership most of us just close our eyes.

I had to help someone determine a per km rate, and found the AA's calculator:
https://www.aa.co.za/tools/vehicle-rates-calculator

Try it and post yours here. I did mine.

A bit frightening is all I can say!
BoosterPlug, LED Spots, Tool Tubes, RustStop, Kappa Screens, Top boxes, Tank Bags, ATG Gear - whatever works for me.

I put fuel in the Prado the other day, when it rolls over R2,500 the petrol attendants start looking underneath for the leak. 🙄

I could not care less regarding the cost, the Paj is heavy on fuel but man that V6 is lovely.

The GSA is also perfect for what I want from it.

What is interesting is that your KTM is more expensive to run compared to my 3.8L V6 4x4.
Seems a bit far fetched if you ask me.

Some people argue about the existence of a deity. I don't make a big thing of it myself, but I know there must be a great accountant in the sky fiddling the books. Has to be, because whichever way you add it up I can't be running a bike. I'd be in minus territory.  :deal:

So I don't even think about it, I just does it!  :lol8:

More than I expected but still not enough to care  :lol8:

But if you look at Average running costs and Average fixed costs it doesnt make sense.

Your V6 does not need a 7-hour operation to check valve clearances come 30000km...

Nope, but it does need a new timing belt every 90 000kms and that is a two day job where you have to remove the whole front of the car before you can start on the timing belt.

This would be more meaningful if it included servicing, insurance, depreciation etc.

I stopped doing these calcs when I calculated the cost per km of my one car after rarely using it for many years - IIRC it was about R15/km PURELY on devaluation

Needless to say I use my bike to commute :ricky:
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy shit...... WHAT A RIDE"!!!!!!!

My bike only "costs" me my insurance premium every month. The more I ride, the cheaper my cost/km is  :deal:

That is the thing with the F800GS. It is so cheap to run.
Proven engine that racks up the km's, not much that goes wrong. I see a lot of them om the road nowadays.
